Blog Post #13 -Pyramids on the Nile-

     Today in class we took notes from the book for the time. We're on a new section called Pyramids on the Nile. Here are my notes: The nile river flows northward across Africa for over 4,100 miles making it the longest river in the world- A Delta is a broad, marshy, triangular area of land formed by deposits of silt at the mouth of the river- Cataracts are churning rapids- By 3200 B.C. the villages of Egypt were under the rule of 2 separate Kingdoms, Upper Egypt and Lower Egypt- A king named Narmer united the 2 kingdoms and he established the first Egyptian Dynasty- The history of Egypt had 31 dynasties- Pharaohs were Egyptian God Kings (which were the center of their religion)- Theocracy is a type of government in which rule is based on religious authority- pyramids were the resting place after death was on immense structure (Ka-eternal life force)- they were polytheistic- most important gods were (Re- god of sun) (Osiris- god of the dead) (Isis- represented mother and wife)- Egyptians worshipped more than 2,000 Gods/Goddesses- Royal and Elite Egyptians bodies were preserved by mummification which involves drying the corpse to prevent it from decaying, their tombs were filled with many valuables as offerings to the Gods with the body.
